Maryland's Question 6 - Video

?

towleroad.com published this Romeny tidbit from 2005. In short Romeny says

"Today [2005], same-sex couples are marrying, under the law, in Massachusetts. Some gays are actually having children born to them. We've been asked to remove the phrase "mother" and "father" and replace it with "parent A" and "parent B." It's not right on paper. It's not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father."

then

"The children of America have the right to have a mother and a father. Of course, even today circumstances can take a parent from the home, but the child still has a mother and a father. If the parents are unmarried or divorced, the child can still visit each of them. If a mother or a father of a child is deceased, the child can learn about the qualities of their departed parent. His or her psychological features can be developed by the contrasting features of both genders. Are we ready to usher in a society indifferent about having mothers and fathers? Will our children be indifferent about a having a mother and father?"

____

Nevermind that 75% of black children are raised in single parent households and for many the option of "visiting" the other parent is off the table. Consider that some do not know who the other parent is and for others the other parent wants nothing to do with them. But least we forget Romeny is not concerned with the 75% percent, his job, instead, is to worry about the other 25%.
I'm very confused by the mind set that says it is okay to inflict your beliefs directly on the lives of legal tax paying educated citizens. This mind set that allows someone to continue to find displeasure at others happiness. The other day while talking to a acquaintance they, without warrent,  remarked about their disgust and disapproval of interracial dating marriage. If its 2012 and a peer can have such ignorant unjustified thoughts, I wonder with much uncertainty about the strength and chance the fight for gay marriage has in America.
Orwell was on to something, "ignorance is bliss." Bliss because people feel better putting themselves over others. The act makes one stand a little taller, 'grow' a little longer, feel better about their current situation. And I get that, reach for that happiness whereever you can get it- but not when it directly effects another in a negative way.
Voting against gay marriage is a selfish, small minded act. Those who set restricting others rights as a joy or activity should be thoroughly embarrassed of their lack of true hobby. Get over your heterosexual privileges, a 50% success rate is not much to be celebrated.

And now the soon to be former presidential hopeful Mitt Romeny.

really?

?
Congrats to Homos! D.C. now recognizes same-sex marriage. Couples that legally wed in Iowa, Vermont, Mass, New Hamp, and formally California, will have their marriage recognized in the District of Columbia. The measured was passed by a vote of 12 to 1. Who wants to guess who the "1" was?
D.C.'s finest politician Former Mayor Marion Barry (D-Ward 8). I've sought long and hard to find a transcript of his exact words at the council meeting this afternoon but the news is to fresh and FIOA is not quick but i'll paraphrase what i heard on NPR "This isn't a personal decision its one of morals"-"I'm not against the vote or the decision or those who side with the issue, i just can't bring my self to support it"

OH Marion! do you remember what you said on April 28th during your anti marriage equality rally? No? I got you!
"There are a lot of issues that we agree on, there are some that we don't agree on, but....we have to say no to same sex marriage in D.C." then he urged the crowd to "pack the city council chambers" on May 5th (today when the board voted) "You can't just talk about it, brother, you have to work for it. You've got to go across the street and walk the halls of City Council, confront all 12 of [the Council members,] eye to eye, morality against immorality."
YO Marion do you know what is immoral? CRACK-COCAINE!
You know what else is F-ing Immoral? The fact that you spent the first part of your political "career" defending the rights and equal treatment of Black Americans! and now you stand there with a group of mostly African American's and your coward friends and hypocrite Pastors and say that consensual adult marriage is immoral? What is paying for prostitution and Crack with tax payer's money? a hobby? You are a flipping idiot dude and so are those who've voted for you and supported you all these years. I believe in second chances but in your case i believe you've been too fortunate.
I'm disgusted.
Yay for Gays!
peace

The Associated Press
Tuesday, May 5, 2009; 12:12 PM

WASHINGTON -- After an emotional debate, the D.C. Council has given final approval to legislation that recognizes same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions.

Tuesday's vote is considered the first step toward eventually allowing gay marriages to be performed in Washington.

The issue now goes before Congress, which has final say over the city's laws.

The vote was 12-to-1, with former Mayor Marion Barry casting the lone opposing vote. He called it an "agonizing and difficult decision" that he made after prayer and consulting with the religious community.

how ironic--i guess i can get married In Iowa

?

I made the comment on my latest blog Marriage: "i'm so glad i can't get married yet" i guess some in Iowa thought they'd show me! Sure enough homosexuals arenow allowed to marry in Iowa.

This article was sent to me by a very awesome young lady i'd like to share it with YOU!

"La
An interesting article.. I really like the way Iowa is approaching this issue. Finally, someone is actually understanding what the constitution of the United States is SUPPOSE to do.

Peace,

"In Iowa Gay Marriage Ruling, Truth is the Winner
By Peter Montgomery
April 4, 2009
A new report shows that when Americans are assured that clergy aren't required to perform same-sex marriages an interesting thing happens.
Celebration in Iowa, near the capitol.

Religious Right leaders have consistently tried to build opposition to marriage equality by portraying marriage equality and religious liberty as incompatible. People For the American Way Foundation’s recent Right Wing Watch In Focus report documented the deceptive ways that Religious Right leaders blur the distinction between civil and religious marriage.

There’s power to the religious liberty argument—on the marriage equality side, that is. Two polls cited in the PFAWF report show that, when Americans who don’t initially support allowing same-sex couples to get married are asked a followup—“If the law guaranteed that no church or congregation would be required to perform marriages for same-sex couples, I would support allowing gay couples to legally marry,” support for marriage equality jumps a remarkable 12 to 14 percent. There’s a lot of public support to be gained by debunking the Religious Right on this front.

That’s why it was especially gratifying that the Iowa Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling devoted considerable space to dealing respectfully with religious objections to same-sex marriage and explaining clearly why religious beliefs about marriage cannot override the constitutional principle of equality when it comes to civil marriage. Here’s the concluding portion of the Court’s section on religion:

In the final analysis, we give respect to the views of all Iowans on the issue of same-sex marriage—religious or otherwise—by giving respect to our constitutional principles. These principles require that the state recognize both opposite-sex and same-sex civil marriage. Religious doctrine and views contrary to this principle of law are unaffected, and people can continue to associate with the religion that best reflects their views. A religious denomination can still define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, and a marriage ceremony performed by a minister, priest, rabbi, or other person ordained or designated as a leader of the person’s religious faith does not lose its meaning as a sacrament or other religious institution. The sanctity of all religious marriages celebrated in the future will have the same meaning as those celebrated in the past. The only difference is civil marriage will now take on a new meaning that reflects a more complete understanding of equal protection of the law. This result is what our constitution requires.
"

If every state...well the conservative states, approached gay marriage in this non secular light more people would accept this idea. Even for me. I never understood how people can be sooo passionate against preventing love between two people. But to "clear it[gay marriage]" of religious connections to redneck churc..i mean conservative churches you essentially break down all arguments against gay marriage. THe only legit arguments left are for people are are hell bent on believe that homosexual is a "sickness" (thats a reference to Mr. Haggard.)
Cheers to all, i bet the rainbows are a flyin high!

Thanks Jamie!

Marriage

?

I wrote a blog many many moons ago on the Original LaChaBenn Blog entitled Where is the Manuel?
The topic of the blog: Marriage, life and the lack of knowing.
Last week in Chicago Gay bars began banning straight women bachelorette parties. Owners say that gay patrons feel that the women are "flaunting their right to marry" and that "watching them celebrate is such a slap in the face," said owner of Cocktail, Geno Zaharakis a gay club in Chicago.

This week i get a text from one of my chapter exs (a relationships that lasted more than two years) it reads "He ask me to marry him" it doesn't help that i don't have any of my chapter ex's numbers saved in my phone. Nor does it help that i don't know what the answer to the question. When i realized who sent me this text i became short of breath and confused. After all it was april fools day.
So i call and i tried to do what i did when my little sis got married (see Where is the Manuel) but i couldn't because i'm no longer as naive and i'm not made of sugar, i'm made of truth.

I am thankful that i can't get married yet. I feel that i'd been divorced twice by now. I might be (sometimes am) one of those people whom "make that magical connection" in very short amounts of time, completely ignore common sense and rational, and decide to marry. I do not understand the fucking obsession with a piece of paper that says the courts and government acknowledge your love for one another so it must be real!

I mentioned earlier i have four chapter exs, i was engaged to one (and fucked up a lot and i'm still sorry for that), one is already happily married (though she unique and my closest ex and always seem to have your marbles together; i still love her and hers!) one left me after a three year friendship/relationship for a someone she knew for three weeks, and one fled the country EVERY time things got serious. Marriage?
What is the rush, where is the hold up? is there really nothing better to do?
Young people of America it is not necessary to sign your individuality away in the name of love, nor is it necessary to rush something as precious as "eternal love."
Folks if your love is sooo true and Soooo right then why not hold off, and let it marinate, good things always get better with age. (and education and really jobs)
i guess what it boils down to is that when you care about someone, you hate watching them do stupid shit (JR, LAW, AW!) but at the end of the day its up to them.
It just sucks when you can say i told you so....

"Why does life not come with a manual and why do i feel like EVERYONE i know is running around with their head on sideways? We all pretend to know what the truth is, what the best choice are, but we're all just guessing. And NO ONE knows.

I'm guessing, and right now i'm as confused as....the elephant man in space? A dog in a cats body? You feel me. I'm single again, and yea i know that was out of left field, but i really needed it. Any relationship where you are talking about marriage within six months RED FLAG IT. I'm trying to stay away from the one i've been crushing, as too not get sucked in to the rebound effect.....i'm really really bad at that.

and on love, EVERYONE is getting married. Did i miss a memo? Is it really time for us to grow up and do all this shit? And i try to be a supportive a possible. But when most people tell me my thought process runs something like this:

1. thinkin "hmm ok la, smile"---saying--OMG CONGRATS

2. thinkin "DO you know the divorce rate right now?"-saying---did you pick a date?

3. thinking "I'll be out of law school in 4, if you need a divorce lawyer "saying--i'll be out of law school in 4 if you need a divorce lawyer

4. Thinking if you love someone that much, you DON"T need some paper telling you that your love is legit saying---NOTHING

5. Thinking Man, i would be married to Cat right now if we'd stayed together....thank G-d i'm not Doing--holding back from puking

My house in MD got flooded so i Don't know if i can move PLUS Moveon.org offered me a job in Atlanta but yea.....

I'm not suicidal in anyway but man i wish i could get to cloud 10 and float away, land on the south Isle of New Zealand, and wait for her there (in like 50 years)

or i wish life came with a manua
